History

The MicroLoan Foundation was started by British businessman, Peter Ryan, in the late 1990′s. Work started in Nkhotakota, a small town situated close to Lake Malawi, in the central region of Malawi. There was one Malawian employee working out of a garage using a bicycle.

Peter was asked about the key steps followed since the start:

“First, start small. Second, build from the ground up, and third, make sure it works. If it doesn’t work, learn the lessons, apply them, adapt, change and move on.”

MicroLoan Foundation has been following those steps ever since. Today, we have 21 branches throughout Malawi and 4 in Zambia.
